IBM TO ACQUIRE RED HAT
IBM TO ACQUIRE RED HAT
IBM had taken the whole tech world by surprise when they announced their deal to acquire Red Hat a couple of weeks ago. After the announcement went public, the question that resonated in the tech world is ‘What would this mean to largest enterprise Linux platform?’ IBM and Red Hat executives have an answer to it as they have assured their employees and customers that Red Hat would continue to operate independently -- at least for now.
In the case of IBM and their customers, this move is welcomed
The move is welcomed among the IBM employees and customers as it integrated the IBM's platforms and services with RedHat, the largest enterprise Linux platform and container solution. Moreover, the services and solutions offered by the two merging bodies are complementing, especially for private and hybrid cloud implementations.
Post acquisition, IBM will be more formidable and competitive with vendors like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft -- all of which have a large customer base leveraging Red Hat. There are a few significant hurdles, however.
The existing customers and partners and the IBM’s competitors are convinced that the change will not be of a big impact on them.
