trunk

trunk connects two points by simultaneously carrying multiple signals. Often, a trunk is known for connecting the switching centers in a communications system. The signals carried by trunk can convey any kind of communications data. A trunk has numerous wires, cables and fiber optic strands that are bundled together in order to expand the available bandwidth in a single cable. Else, it has a single high capacity link on which multiple signals are multiplexed.
