Monit

Monit is a free open source tool used for managing and monitoring Systems. Monit performs the automatic check on directories, file systems, permissions, and server processes. Monit can start, restart or stop a running process. Monit creates log for all reports and sends notifications and alert messages. Apart from that, it is also capable of performing automatic maintenance or repair of a particular process (i.e., restarting the service) whenever needed. Monit can also be used for proactively managing and monitoring of programs, files, directories, and devices for permission changes, timestamps changes, size changes, and checksum changes not limited to perform various protocol checks, TCP/IP network checks, and can utilize SSL for such checks.
