Non- Windows users frustrated with the performance of OneDrive
If there was one thing that the Microsoft camp kept bragging about ever since it fell under the stewardship of Satya Nadella, it is about how much the software giant loves Linux. But, the performance of the Microsoft’ s OneDrive on Linux says a different story altogether.
A good number of frustrated Linux users lament about the performance of the OneDrive web app. They complain that when they try to access Microsoft’ s cloudy storage system in a browser on a non-Windows system, like Linux or ChromeOS, the service is as slow as a tortoise. Interestingly, when the same service is used on a windows machine, its speed is unmatched.
That isn’ t all folks, as there is more to it. The users have observed that when the browser’ s user agent string - the text a browser sends to a site to identify itself, is changed to either Internet Explorer or Edge, the problem magically gets sorted on their non- windows OS. It seems as though Microsoft’ s OneDrive web app slows down deliberately when it is used on Linux or any other Windows-rival platform.
Since the issue has been bothering the non &ndash windows users for quite some time now, frustrated users have expressed their concern on internet.
When asked about the issue, Microsoft refrained from addressing the issue. Earlier when a similar situation arose, Microsoft had reminded its users about the compatibility of OneDrive, which is not supported on Linux. But, even on a Linux or other non-windows OS, OneDrive’ s performance gets a boost when the user-agent is diverted to any of Microsoft’ s browser, and this seems as malice, feels dissatisfied several users.
There is a speculation that Microsoft is very lazy about checking said user-agent string in order to see which version of code should be served to the user’ s browser, and not having a supported version for common browsers like Chrome or Firefox on Linux. Hence, it is expected from the software giant to fix the issue.
