Linux Mint 18.2 Ubuntu based Operating System is named Sonya

3153

Linux Mint, a popular Operating System for Linux which has been running on the Unity desktop environment is ditched as its base OS. Instead it offers the Cinnamon DE. However the uncertainty of the Ubuntu has not deterred the Linux Mint team and has moved ahead with the 18.2 version. There are two things about the 18.2 one is the OS code name is named as “ Sonya” and the second thing is it will use the LightDM as default display manager.

Clement Lefebvre, Linux Mint explains the meaning behind the name Sonya. One of the developers named Michael Webster had lost his wife Sonya. The team has addressed the support and deepest sympathy to Michael Webster.

He also added “ I can’ t think of anything more painful than losing a loved one. We feel a lot of fraternity and sadness after what happened. It is an honor for us to be able to commemorate her name. Farewell Sonya and to you Michael, it is a real pleasure and privilege to be developing with you. I hope you do well,"

We here at LinuxHelp would like to offer our condolences to Michael Webster as well. Our hearts go out to you and your family, sir.

Lefebvre further added that the Linux Mint 18.2 will switch to LightDM display manager.

With all the confusion surrounding the Ubuntu, Linux Mint team seems to be on clear path working on Mint OS. There is a secondary Debian version of the distro pending to be released. Till then its business as usual till the release of “ Sonya” .

Q

what is linuxmint?

A

"Linux Mint 18.2 will also have a very meaningful codename and a special place in the heart of one of our developers. I would like to address my support and my deepest sympathy to Michael Webster, one of our friends within the development team, for the loss of his wife Sonya. I can’t think of anything more painful than losing a loved one. We feel a lot of fraternity and sadness after what happened. It is an honor for us to be able to commemorate her name. Farewell Sonya and to you Michael, it is a real pleasure and privilege to be developing with you. I hope you do well," says Clement Lefebvre, Linux Mint.

Q

how to Make your own NES Classic Edition with Lakka 2.0 LibreELEC Linux distro and Raspberry Pi?

A

The NES Classic Edition is a very fun nostalgia-based gaming console. As someone who grew up with Nintendo, I knew I wanted the mini system as soon as it was announced. A family member was able to score me one on launch day, and I've been very happy with it. Unfortunately, other people have not been so lucky. Supply was very limited and it has since been discontinued. If you do not already have it, you are sort of out of luck without paying high prices on eBay or Craigslist.

Q

where to Lakka team shares the following changes and bug fixes to the operating system.?

A

LibreELEC 8.0 stable rebase
RetroArch 1.5.0
Simplified menu
Intuitive netplay: you create or join netplay rooms directly from the menu.
Ability to change the icon set on the fly
Revamped virtual keyboard
Korean language support
New server for downloads and updates
Almost all libretro cores are now enabled on every image
Important Vsync Bug fixed on Orange Pi
White background bug fix for WeTek
Resolution bug fix for WeTek
Fixed physical keyboard typing in the menu

Q

How is Ubuntu not affected by viruses?

A

Almost all viruses and malware are coded to take advantage of weaknesses in Windows. They simply won’t run on Ubuntu, immediately decimating the amount of time, resource and expense you invest in protecting your desktops (not to mention cleaning them up if something nasty does strike).
For a more detailed answer, we’d recommend this article, it goes through some interesting facts on why Linux in general is more secure than Windows.

Q

Why is Ubuntu the most popular operating system for cloud?

A

Large enterprises such as HP, Microsoft, Rackspace, IBM and DreamHost provide Ubuntu images in their public cloud infrastructure, or run it for their own private and public clouds.
Ubuntu is the number one operating system on Amazon Web Services and has been closely involved with OpenStack since the very beginning of the project. We can therefore provide engineering, consultancy and support expertise to help with any cloud project, whether you want to run your services on a major public cloud (OpenStack-based or otherwise) or build private cloud infrastructure on your own hardware.
