To Install Telegram on Linux Mint18.3

Telegram is a free, open source and cross-platform instant messaging client that values user’ s privacy and data encryption. It has the advantage over Pidgin and many others messenger applications. It’ s focused on privacy and security, so it encrypts all messages and even lets them self-destruct if the users want that. It is so simple to install Telegram on Linux Mint 18.3 and this tutorial covers the ground on the same process.

Installing Telegram

First, you need to update the system by making use of the following command.

linuxhelp user # apt-get update
Hit:1 http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu xenial InRelease
Hit:2 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial InRelease
Ign:3 http://packages.linuxmint.com sylvia InRelease
Hit:4 http://packages.linuxmint.com sylvia Release

Once it is updated, you should add the necessary repository by making use of the following command.

linuxhelp user # add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/telegram
You are about to add the following PPA:
Telegram Desktop for Linux. Both 32 and 64 bit.
 More info: https://launchpad.net/~atareao/+archive/ubuntu/telegram
Press Enter to continue or Ctrl+C to cancel
Executing: /tmp/tmp.IEcZgNiFgI/gpg.1.sh --keyserver
hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80
--recv-keys
36FD5529
gpg: requesting key 36FD5529 from hkp server keyserver.ubuntu.com
gpg: key 36FD5529: public key " Launchpad PPA for atareao" imported
gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg: imported: 1 (RSA: 1)

And then you need to update the system repository again.

linuxhelp user # apt-get update
