Data leak in Asus Wi-Fi software leads to the risk of fraud and robbery

6126

Data leak is detected in the Asus Wi-Fi software by the researchers and this lays a path for the hackers to access the users' network and data in an unauthorized way. This leak of data also made it possible for hackers to hijack smart home devices like Amazon's Alexa.

This vulnerability was uncovered by the vpnMentor and the researchers sniffed the IP addresses, users’ names, devices’ names, usage information and IFTTT commands, longitude, and latitude coordinates, as well as location info like countries and cities.

The researchers also announced that none of the personally identifiable information or data was viewable but even then by collecting all the leaked data hackers can easily get the personal details of a user like a name and address.

Though the leaked data many victims' unprotected devices were taken control by the hackers. Through this many safe and planned robberies were performed.

Since the unprotected devices in AsusWRT are taken control and if the AsusWRT user has smart lock devices hackers accessed the door via compromised AsusWRT and Alexa devices. The vpnMentor announced that the leak is locked but still AsusWRT users are advised to uninstall the app and contact Asus directly to find out what measures they can take to protect themselves.
