To install Plex Media Server in Ubuntu

Plex Media Server is a free-ware media manager that is used to play files from your computer to mobile devices and smart TVs using a local network or over the internet. Using this tool we can view movies, photos, TV shows, music etc., It has its own App Store using which the plugins can be installed. Installation of Plex Media Server is explained in this article.

To install Plex Media Server

Download the Plex installation package by running the following command.

root@linuxhelp:/home/user1# wget https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/1.0.3.2461-35f0caa/plexmediaserver_1.0.3.2461-35f0caa_amd64.deb

Run the following command to generate key for the installed packages.

root@linuxhelp:/home/user1# dpkg -i plexmediaserver_1.0.3.2461-35f0caa_amd64.deb

To start Plex media player

To open the plex media player from the Unity dash.
search

Agree the Plex Terms of Service to proceed further.
terms_of_service

Sign up to the Plex Media player.
login
plex_pass

In Server setup page, give a name for your server and click Next.

Click Add library to organize the media and then hit Next.

Click Done and your media player is ready to use.

Click Add library to add media files.

It also provides a facility to view the online content. To Install channels, click Install and enjoy the online music streaming.

Go to Settings &rarr Web to know about general and player settings.

Click on Server to know about server settings.

To know about User settings, click User.

To check the Connected devices, click Devices.
