LUKS

LUKS (Linux Unified Key Setup) is a disk encryption specification. LUKS is a disk encryption software that implements different and incompatible, undocumented formats. It is platform- independent standard on disk format. It also provides secure management of multiple user and passwords. LUKS stores all setup necessary in partition header, enabling the user to transport or migrate data seamlessly. By providing a standard on-disk-format, it does not only facilitate compatibility among distributions, but also provides secure management of multiple user passwords.
