To install Mumble 1.2.19 on Ubuntu 18.04

Mumble is an open source, low-latency, high quality voice chat software. Mumble is a voice over IP (VoIP) application primarily designed for use by gamers, similar to programs such as TeamSpeak and Ventrilo. Mumble uses a client–server architecture which allows users to talk to each other via the same server. In this tutorial, we will cover the installation of Mumble on Ubuntu 18.04.

Installation

Update the system repository using the following command

root@linuxhelp1:~# apt-get update

Install the Mumble server and Mumble package using the following command

root@linuxhelp1:~# apt-get install mumble-server mumble -y

Configure Voice Activity Detection as shown below

Configure Quality and Notification

Choose Positional Audio as follow

After the configuration, you will see the following page as shown below

Choose Certificate authentication

Configure the Mumble server and Username

Your whole communication to and from the server is always encrypted. This encryption is mandatory and cannot be disabled. The so-called control channel, which transports your chat messages and other non-time critical information, is encrypted with TLS using 256-bit AES-SHA. The voice channel carrying speech and positional audio is encrypted with OCB-AES 128 bit. You and the server authenticate to each other using digital certificates like they are used for secured connections in Web-browsers.
