Google is imperative in bringing Linux Kernel versions in Android Oreo
Google has been offering Android as a mobile OS for almost a decade. It finally came into place with Oreo along with Linux roots. Google is introducing a new requirement that OEMs must meet the new rules and limitations that Google should allow.
As long as OEM was able to pass the certification tests, Google didn’ t care about the Kernel version. With the new version 3.18 of the Linux Kernel is EOL. Not only is this version of the Linux kernel more secure, but it also means the companies won’ t need to put as many resources to keep it secure going forward.
Google also contains new devices launched with Android Oreo to be configured to support the Project Treble from the start so that it will be easier to upgrade Linux kernel versions and reduce the backporting security patches.
Only versions 3.18 or newer Android versions need to be updated with the Linux kernels to support project Treble.
