vApps allow VMs to work together in a stack as an application which is managed very similarly as a virtual machine, and support cloud computing architectures. vApps can be nested within vApps, setting up VMware resource pools. A vApp also shares some functionality with virtual machines. A vApp can power on and power off, and can also be cloned. A vApp can be distributed across multiple ESX/ESXi hosts in VMware vCenter or deployed other VMware platforms. VMware vApps operate on the Open Virtualization Format (OVF) standard and vApps are exported in OVF format. VMware vApp meta data resides in the vCenter Server database.
