syslog is a standard for logging program messages. Syslog tracks and logs all system events and messages. It generates logs from both kernels & apps, and stores them into files, pipes, remote hosts and specific users. The network devices can send event messages to logging server through the syslog process. Consolidating logs from various sources can be effectively done with Syslog.
