13 Instagram malicious apps fished out from Google Play.
Instagram users must be careful these days as several malicious apps which siphon sensitive information from users had been lurking in Google Play for some time now. These said applications were detected on Google Play states the internet security giant ESET.
The 13 apps listed by ESET found its way to the victims by posing as apps that could boost the instagram follower numbers since they have an uncanny resemblance to the authentic applications, but the reality is quite opposite to what it claims to do, as they phish the user credentials from the victims when they try to access them.
The siphoned credentials are sent to the attacker’ s server in plain text and they are then used by the hackers to spread spams and ads, also to give like, comment and to share other user posts on social media. Once the victims fall prey to these apps, they can no longer use their account.
ESET has recommended the instagram users to protect themselves from these harmful apps by uninstalling them, and then run a virus scan on their system. If the users want to secure their instagram account, they are recommended to go the official page and change the password. Also, if victims use the same user credentials on different social media accounts, they are advised to reset them.
