TCP SACK (abbreviated as Transmission Control Protocol Selective ACKnowledgement) is a mechanism, combined with a selective repeat retransmission policy, to overcome poor performance of TCP due to loss of multiple data packets, so that the receiving TCP sends back SACK packets to acknowledge the sender informing the sender of data that has been received and to request sender to re-transmit only the missing data segments.
