How to Install and use Ring in Linux

To Use Ring Instead of Skype in Linux

Ring is an opensource software for connecting people through audio or video calls, and to send messages confidentially. It is made available for all distributions. Installation of ring is explained in this manual.

To install Ring

Before installing ring, add the following repository to the source list file

root@linuxhelp1:~# sh -c " echo ' deb http://nightly.apt.ring.cx/ubuntu_16.04/ ring main'  >  /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ring-nightly-main.list" 

Append the key to the newly added repository by using the following command.

root@linuxhelp1:~# apt-key adv --keyserver pgp.mit.edu --recv-keys A295D773307D25A33AE72F2F64CD5FA175348F84

Update the system by running the following command to apply changes.

Search and open the ring from the unity dashboard.

The ring window appears.

Change the name of the user for the Ring app and click next.

Your Ring account opens along with the User ID.


Click QR code to generate the QR code.
