To Install and Configure Citrix Xenserver 6.5

Citrix XenServer is top server virtualization and hypervisor management platform which lowers the total cost of ownership for application, desktop, cloud and server virtualization infrastructures. In this article we are going to discuss how to configure and install Citrix Xenserver 6.5.


Requirements

1. XenServer 6.5 ISO
To download: http://xenserver.org/open-source-virtualization-download.html
2. Must have minimum 2GB ram and 64bit 1.5GHz CPU are recommended.
3. Minimum 16GB of hard drive space required.
4. Network card atleast 100mbps is needed.


To Test System Configuration

1. One IBM X3850

64gb ram
4 gigabit NIC cards
4 hexcore 2.66 GHz CPUs
4 300GB SAS drives

2. 24TB Dell PE5500E is required for storage of the virtual machine disks


Steps to install Citrix Xenserver 6.5

To download the XenServer ISO file using the following command.

# wget -c http://downloadns.citrix.com.edgesuite.net/10175/XenServer-6.5.0-xenserver.org-install-cd.iso

To burn the ISO to a CD or use the following command.

# dd if=XenServer-6.5.0-xenserver.org-install-cd.iso of=

To boot media

Press enter to begin and select language

Click ok.

Hit the " Accept EULA" button.

Select the specific Hard drive for storage and click ok

Select the type of installation source as " Local Media"

To install Supplemental packs select yes. And its recommended to not install those packs.

In verify installer media confirmation, choose skip verification.

Now create the password for Root account.

Choose the mode of networking as DHCP or Static IP as required. Here static IP is selected and configured.

Set Hostname for the Xenserver and DNS if needed.

Select the respective Time zone and connect with NTP or configure manually.



To install hypervisor

A pop-up window appears with final confirmation for XenServer installation. Select " Install Xenserver"

Once the installation is completed, reboot the computer.

You have to be in Citrix XenServer splash page and allow the computer to continue booting.

After booting process finished, it displayed XenServer control page.

Thus XenServer was successfully installed and your virtual machines will be created.
